Wendish Museum Cottbus

Serbski muzej Chóśebuz

The Wendish Museum is located in a neoclassical former residential and trade building in the old city centre of Cottbus. The museum was recently fully renovated, which involved creating a reception area with a new design where visitors are shown an introductory film about the exhibition and a fixed route through the permanent exhibition on the cultural history of the Sorbs/Wends in Lower Lusatia. The museum also features a charming little courtyard containing a traditional Sorbian lime tree. In 2005, a bronze sculpture designed by Peter Buth and depicting a water spirit sitting on a boulder, a character in Sorbian/Wendish folklore, was installed in front of the museum building.
