Prampany kal – a typical Sorbian cabbage and potato dish

Ingredients for 6 portions:

1 red cabbage, 1 kg potatoes, 250 g fatty bacon, pepper, salt

Method:

Finely slice the red cabbage and cook in the oven in plenty of water with a sprinkling of salt until soft. When the cabbage is cooked, remove it from the oven but do not drain. Fry the bacon until the fat has melted, then add to the cabbage and season to taste with salt and pepper.

Peel the potatoes, cook in boiling water, drain and mash. Slowly pour the red cabbage mixture, including the liquid, into the mashed potatoes and stir to create a thick purée. Serve in soup plates and eat with a spoon. Enjoy this filling and flavoursome treat!
